Jurisdiction

The Royal Thai Consulate General Los Angeles may issue divorce certificates to Thai citizens that reside in the following thirteen (13) states: Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming as well as all of the unincorporated territories of the United States in the Pacific such as Guam

    1. Criteria
      • The divorcing couple must apply for a divorce certificate by mail
      • For couples who had their marriage certificates issued prior to June 5th, 2003, the wife must possess a Thai passport and proof that the civil registry recorded her last name as being that of the male spouse in order to be able to have a divorce certificate issued to them
    2. Required Documentation
      • Request for appointment to apply for a divorce certificate (1 copy)
      • Legalization application for applying for a divorce certificate (1 for each spouse)
      • Application for a marriage certificate (1 copy, fill out both English and Thai sections)
        • Ladies must put their maiden name in parentheses in the form in both Thai and English
      • Divorce settlement agreement (1 copy)
          • If the couple has children, then please state each of their full names, dates of birth, and ages (in years). If the children are underage (that is, under 20 years of age), then the agreement must state who shall have custody over them following the divorce
          • If the couple has no children, then please state that on the agreement
          • If you do not wish to state any agreements pertaining to financial or property affairs, then please state that on the agreement
          • If there are any other issues you do not wish to state or include in the divorce settlement agreement, then please state that on the agreement

         

      • Thai national ID card and/or valid passport (of both spouses) (Original plus 1 copy)
      • Thai house registration which has the 13 digit ID number of the individual applying (1 copy)
      • U.S. state-issued ID or driver’s license (if available)
      • Original marriage certificate or a copy which has an official seal from the district office in Thailand (if it is not available, then you must request a copy with the official seal first)
    3. Fees

      There are no fees associated with applying for a divorce certificate

    4. Processing
      • Prepare all of the necessary documents outlined above
      • Make an appointment with the Royal Thai Consulate General, Los Angeles to apply for a divorce certificate at least 5 business days in advance by mailing in copies of all of the necessary documentation in order to allow our staff to process them and prepare the divorce certificate
      • Wait for a confirmation of the appointment from Royal Thai Consulate staff (divorce certificates are issued at 2 PM everyday, Monday to Friday except for holidays)
      • On the day of appointment/issual of the divorce certificate, both parties that make up the couple most come to the Royal Thai Consulate General, Los Angeles at the time and date determined by the staff and present the original copies of the required documents. The couple shall receive their divorce certificate on the same day.
