Jurisdiction

The Royal Thai Consulate General Los Angeles may issue marriage certificates to Thai citizens that reside in the following thirteen (13) states: Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming as well as all of the unincorporated territories of the United States in the Pacific such as Guam.

    1. Criteria
      • A party applying for a marriage certificate must be a Thai citizen.
      • If a party is not a Thai citizen, an affirmation of marital status of said party must be submitted.
      • Both parties must be at least 18 years of age, otherwise consent from
        the parent or legal guardian of the party under 18 years of age must be submitted.
      • If a party is a student under the care of the Office of Educational Affairs
        of the Royal Thai Embassy, or any other office of the Royal Thai Government in the United States, then that respective office must issue a document permitting the marriage. The document must be submitted to the Royal Thai Consulate General, Los Angeles.
      • If a party applying for a marriage certificate had a marriage certificate with another partner, then the said party must present a divorce certificate with that previous partner.
      • If the female party had ended a marriage with a previous partner:
        • The surname in the female party’s passport and other civil registration documents must be changed back to her maiden name before she can apply for a new marriage certificate. This only applies to marriages before June 5th, 2003.
        • A female party whose previous marriage with a male partner had ended, or whose male partner had died, may apply for a new marriage certificate with a male party once 310 days have since passed, unless she had given birth within the 310 days; provides a letter from a physician certifying she is not pregnant; or provides a court order from Thailand allowing the marriage.

    2. Necessary Documentation
      • Request for appointment to apply for a marriage certificate 
      • Legalization application for applying for a marriage certificate (one for each party)
        • There are two versions of this form, one for those who have previously signed a marriage certificate with another partner and one for those who have not
      • Application for a marriage certificate (one copy / fil out both English and Thai sections)
      • Thai national ID card and/or valid passport of both parties (Original and one copy)
      • Thai house registration which has the 13 digit ID number of the party applying (one copy)
      • US State issued ID or driver’s license (if available)
      • Other necessary documentation (if deemed necessary by the Royal Thai Consulate General, Los Angeles, in accordance to the criteria above)

    3. Fees

                There are no fees associated with applying for a marriage certificate

            4. Processing

                       • Fill application form for marriage certificate (Click Here)
                       • Prepare all of the necessary documents outlined above
                       • Make an appointment with the Royal Thai Consulate General, Los Angeles, to apply for a marriage certificate at least 5 business days in advance by submitting the copies of all of the necessary documentation online
                       • in order to allow our staff to process them and prepare the marriage certificate.
                       • Wait for a confirmation of the appointment from Royal Thai Consulate General staff (marriage certificates are issued at 2 PM every day, Monday to Friday except for holidays).
                       • On the day of appointment / issuance of the marriage certificate, both parties must come to the Royal Thai Consulate General, Los Angeles, at the time and date determined by the staff and present the original copies of the required documents. The parties shall receive their marriage certificate on the same day.
